The government is looking into the matter of reported funding to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ‘seriously’ to unearth the fact, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam in Dhaka on Saturday.
“We’ve seen the Indian media report. We’re taking it very seriously and investigation in this regard has been launched,” he told reports at city’s Hotel Sonargaon after attending a function.
There is ‘adequate procedure’ between Bangladesh and India to exchange intelligence reports, Shahriar said adding that neither Bangladesh nor India will allow anybody to use their soils for terrorism.
The State Minister said the report of summoning Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata is fully baseless.
Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Siddharth Nath Singh claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee funded Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and alleged that the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has involvement with fundamental outfits, reports Indian influential daily The Hindu on Friday.
Banerjee sent money taken from the scam-tainted Saradha Group to the ‘outfit’ in exchange for its help to influence voters in Bengal and win elections, Singh told reporters in Kolkata.
